Illinois Higher Education Equity Symposium

The theme for the 4th Annual Higher Education Equity Symposium is: “Bridging Gaps, Building Futures: Understanding and Addressing Male Enrollment Decline and Economic Equity for All Graduates.” As higher education continues to evolve, it is increasingly clear that addressing disparities in access and outcomes requires intentional, equity-centered action. The 4th Annual Higher Education Equity Symposium is guided by the theme “Bridging Gaps, Building Futures,” reflecting a dual focus: the urgent need to reverse declining male enrollment trends, and the broader imperative to ensure economic equity for all college graduates. This year’s convening brings together educators, thought leaders, practitioners, and policymakers who are committed to understanding the root causes behind male student disengagement, particularly among Black, Latino, Indigenous, and low-income white men, and identifying strategies to increase persistence, belonging, and success. Simultaneously, the Symposium examines how institutions can create pathways to equitable employment outcomes for graduates across all backgrounds. Through data-informed discussions, inspiring keynote sessions, and collaborative breakout dialogues, participants will explore how inclusive policies, culturally responsive pedagogy, and intentional partnerships can help higher education truly serve as a bridge to provide opportunities and brighter futures for every student.
