Notes:
Join us for an afternoon of tie-dying with indigo! We will take inspiration from traditional Japanese Shibori dying techniques and patterns. Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique using folding, stitching, twisting, or bunching cloth and binding. Items are then submerged in a blue indigo dye bath. This technique creates unique patterns in the bold blue of indigo.
Please bring 2 - 4 pre-washed 100% cotton or natural fiber items. Items to dye must be prewashed and 100% cotton, white or light colored. Please prewash items to remove factory sizing from the fabric, this will allow the dye to adhere to the fabric. Ideal items include button-down shirts, t-shirts, tanks, leggings, white jeans, tote bags, dish towels, pillowcases, and sheets. Old or stained items will also work as the dye will cover any stains on the fabric. A selection of cotton tote bags, pencil cases, pillowcases, and bandanas are available to purchase at the Craft Shop supply store.
Refunds requests must be submitted one week before to the start of the workshop. Requests must be emailed to craftshop@siu.edu.
